About Us

Sir Richard Steele is an independent pub / bar / restaurant with an idyllic beer garden serving craft beer and modern cuisine. Dating back to Victorian times, it has been the heart of the lively ‘Steeles’ Village for generations. Sir Richard Steele, c. 1627 – 1729 lived on the site of the pub in a quaint old cottage. He was a famous writer and cofounder of the Tatler Magazine and the Spectator.

Sir Richard Steele is a warm and welcoming place to eat, drink and relax. With leather banquettes, timber and brass finishes, a mix of comfortable armchairs and a smattering of contemporary fabrics, this has all been complimented with a foray of artworks from local artists. Staying true to The Steeles colourful & eclectic past we retained many of the original features of the pub including the oil painted mural ceiling and have introduced some more contemporary finishes such as wallpapers from House of Hackney, giving the new look Steeles bundles of charm.
